Think Tank Meeting of the Alliance of Management Development Associations in Rising Economies

by

Less than a year after its creation, the Alliance of Management Development Associations in Rising Economies held its first Think Tank meeting on Tuesday, 30 June. This historic meeting aimed to formally introduce each partner association, foster stronger bonds and commitment, and cement the structure of the Alliance by building on its key objectives. The outcome was a true reflection of the future impact of the new dialogue and partnerships between business schools around the world through the Alliance.

While several Alliance partner meetings were held over the past year to discuss the structure, purpose, and possible activities of the Alliance, this gathering invited wider representation of the Board members from each partner association: the African Association of Business Schools (AABS); the National Association of Business Administration Undergraduate Courses of Brazil (ANGRAD); Baltic Management Development Association (BMDA); the International Association for Management Development in Dynamic Societies (CEEMAN); the Latin American Council of Management Schools (CLADEA); the Association of Management Development Education in Poland (FORUM) and Russian Association of Business Education (RABE).

The opening was marked by welcome remarks from Prof. Danica Purg, President of CEEMAN, Prof. Nicola Kleyn, CEEMAN Vice-President for Africa, and Prof. Ali Elquammah, AABS Chairman.

“Our regions share similar values, often face similar challenges, and are known for resilience and creativity. Yet there is still a long path ahead of us, and continuously learning from each other and supporting each other is of crucial importance, now more than ever,” says Prof. Danica Purg.

“Today is a very important meeting because you can only get the fire of the concept of the Alliance burning when you start getting voices from different schools and member organisations.” Prof. Nicola Kleyn.

After a short introduction of each board member and association, participants met in smaller groups to discuss the energies that should be invested to improve the Alliance value proposition, possible activities, and the feasibility in the short to medium term. Potential Alliance activities discussed at the meeting included: joint global forum and online events, joint research for the benefit of education and business, exchange of teaching methodologies and materials (including case studies), etc. Read more about the envisioned activities and Alliance concept

Finally, the representatives of the Alliance expressed their wish to maintain fluent communication and collaboration in order to deliver innovative education and collaboration opportunities to support business education in each region.

The next Alliance meeting is scheduled to take place in October, where member schools of all Alliance partner associations will be invited to join. More information will be provided soon.

About the Alliance

At the 27th CEEMAN Annual Conference held on 25-27 September 2019 in Wroclaw, Poland, several management development associations from Central and Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America signed a memorandum of understanding for establishing an Alliance to better serve the needs of business schools located in rising economies.

The Alliance of Management Development Associations in Rising Economies now gathers representatives of African Association of Business Schools (AABS); the National Association of Business Administration Undergraduate Courses of Brazil (ANGRAD); Baltic Management Development Association (BMDA); the International Association for Management Development in Dynamic Societies (CEEMAN); the Latin American Council of Management Schools (CLADEA); the Association of Management Development Education in Poland (FORUM) and Russian Association of Business Education (RABE).

Drawing together associations from around the globe, it aims to break new ground in assessing current and future educational needs, outlining examples of dealing with challenges, and offering a collection of tools and activities to help create and deliver innovative education and collaboration opportunities to support business education in rising economies.
